GigaProbes Probe Kits
In addition to our complete Horizontal and Vertical Probing solutions, DVT Solutions provides Probe Kits for testing various sizes and configurations of PCBs.
To configure an effective probe system to make time or frequency measurements with a TDR or VNA, selecting the right probe is the most important decision to make before selecting the probing system components.
Specifically, we need to determine the probe bandwidth and the probe pitch. The signal-to-signal probe pitch needs to match the test pad on the boards and the probe bandwidth must be adequate to measure the fundamental clock frequency, and high enough to capture the harmonics contained in the chip driver rise/fall time.
If the measurement application is to make a visual verification of the impedance and S-parameter bandwidth of differential traces on the “final product prototype PCB” meet their test specifications. Select one of our three differential two-probe kits (with bandwidths of 40 GHz to 70 GHz) that meets your testing criteria.
With two probes, you can make differential insertion, return loss and impedance of differential traces measurements to determine if the interconnects meet design margins before the board is released to have active components attached and the board is functional tested.
At this point if the board fails in functional test, it is impossible to determine the source of the failure. Was it a poorly manufactured PCB, related to an active component circuit design or other design related issues? Testing the interconnect specifications on the prototype board before it has components attached also verifies if the PCB manufacturer can reliably produce these boards in quantity.
The DVT40-1MM 40 GHz and the DVT30-1MM 20 GHz probe kits include two multi-mode differential probes with probe tips plated with conductive diamonds to ensure reliably repeatable measurements. Each kit includes accessories for setting the differential probe impedance to 50 Ohms and adjusting the probe pitch from .35 mm to 1.8 mm.
The DVT40-1MM kit requires also ordering the DVT40-FP250-A adapter to connect the DVT40 probe to the DVT-FP250 Probe Positioner for vertical or horizontal probing.
The DVT30-1MM kit Includes four 27 GHz 17” RF ultra-flex cables and four right-angle adapters to connect the connectors to cables, which take the strain off the cable-connector interface, and two DVT-FP60 probe adapters to connect the probe to our DVT-FP60 Probe Positioner. The DVT-FPPXX High Fidelity Differential Probe Kit includes two fixed-pitch 1mm differential probes for making insertion and return loss S-parameters with your VNA up to 70 GHz. It may be possible to order the probe tips at a custom pitch 200 um on each side of 1 mm. The probe kit can be ordered as a 40 GHz, 50 Ghz or 70 Ghz bandwidth probe. Adapters are included for connecting the probe to our DVT-FP250 Probe Positioner for probing vertical or horizontal boards.
