This seminar will guide you through a step by step process to create differential impedance and SDD11 S-Parameters from measurements taken on a CAT 5 differential cable. This web page makes available pre-developed waveforms, a set of training videos and workbook that you can download below. When you complete this seminar it is easy to replicate these measurements on any differential or single ended interconnect such as backplanes, packages, connectors etc.

Items Needed for This Seminar
Two GigaProbes™
Two SMA Cables
TDS or DSA 8200 and any TDR module
IConnect® Signal Integrity Software running resident or on PC
OPTIONAL * CAT 5 42" Cable * Agilent TDR or any legacy Tektronix TDR.
Step #1 View video 1 first. It is a concept video that shows how to use many of the basic features of IConnect® using the Tektronix TDS/DSA8200 TDR to create Impedance waveforms (Z line) and then convert them to differential waveforms. We use these waveforms to create a differential S11 return loss waveform. Many tips are included in this concepts video.
Step #2 Next, download the IConnect® waveforms/waveform viewers (Vr 3.5) in the ZIP file and the IConnect® workbook to your computer. Un-ZIP the waveform files in a folder and open the IConnect® workbook. Follow the steps in the IConnect workbook.
Step#3 View Video 2. This video will show you step by step how to using the IConnect® workbook and waveforms to complete the training session. Video 2 will show you how to create impedance waveforms (Z line), convert them to differential waveforms using the IConnect® waveforms that were downloaded.

This is an edited live IConnect Seminar video using the Tektronix TDS8200 TDR and graphics to demonstrate how to create differential Z-line impedance waveforms and convert them to an S11 S-parameter. Lots of theory and tips are included to quickly make you an IConnect expert.
After viewing IConnect® concept video #1 down load the IConnect® waveforms and waveform viewers to be used with the IConnect® workbook and your copy of the Tektronix IConnect® software. Follow the instructions by starting up IConnect® and loading each waveform viewer as instructed in the workbook. Use Video 2 to help you through the workbook.
This step by step video will show how to complete the IConnect® workbook to create impedance waveforms (Z line), convert them to differential waveforms and a return loss s-parameters using the IConnect® waveforms that were downloaded from this page. Review video 2 if you need help to complete this workbook.
Download this application note on how to create SDD11 & SDD21 differential S-parameters using a 100 ohm test coupon as the device under test. If you can master this test procedure you can use this knowledge to create S-parameters from backplanes, cables, etc.
